Avoid using Plate Magnets suspended over product whenever possible:
Metal contaminates are heavier than most product and tend to flow to the bottom of product burdens.
Plate Magnets used over product must overcome at least (2) conflicting forces GRAVITY & PRODUCT MASS... contamination needs to overcome gravity & pass through the massive weight of product burdens to get to the magnet.
